BERRY ROAD PARK OVER MIMICO CREEK (2022)
BRIDGE JACKING AND DESIGN BUILD
City of Toronto – Toronto, Ontario
At Berry Road Park over Mimico Creek, there was an existing 27.5 m long single-span pedestrian made of slab-on-steel twin girder bridge followed by 23.85 m long three (3) continuous spans of elevated reinforced concrete stairs. As part of the City of Toronto’s bridge rehabilitation project, the top portion of the abutments and piers have to be removed and reconstructed. Doug Dixon and Associates Inc. (DDA) was the structural consultant to Bridgecon Construction Inc. for the bridge jacking of the pedestrian bridge and the elevated stairs. DDA undertook the detailed design as per the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code and OPSS 921 for the jacking under SLS load and shore loads and designed the jacking systems that included the jacking brackets, steel pedestals, jacking columns, jacking housing, and lateral and longitudinal support systems. DDA undertook the construction inspection for the jacking using the volumetric jacking controller.
