Indian Line Road Bridge (2021 – 2022)

Indian Line Road Bridge is located at Mile 7.25 of CN’s Halton Subdivision. The existing bridge is a four (4) lane, single-span reinforced concrete slab on precast concrete AASHTO Girders. The span is 16 m. Doug Dixon & Associates Inc. (DDA) was retained by the City of Toronto to undertake a detailed deck condition survey, including an abutment and girder inspection. On this basis, DDA prepared a Pre-Design Report complete with a comparison of options and a recommendation. The recommendation included an assessment of a number of factors including environmental impacts and costs. DDA also prepared permit applications and liaised with utility companies impacted by the proposed construction (TCEnergy, Enbridge, CN, and TRCA). Doug Dixon & Associates Inc. also prepared the detailed design and contract documents for a superstructure replacement. The new superstructure is a reinforced concrete slab on steel girders constructed using Accelerated Bridge Construction Techniques. Traffic was maintained on a portion of the existing bridge during construction. The abutment was repaired by form and pump refacing to mitigate impacts on train operations on CN’s Halton Subdivision. Thermal-applied zinc as well as dispersed zinc anodes were used to extend the life of the abutments and retaining walls. Doug Dixon & Associates Inc. provided Construction Administration in 2021 during construction.
